An idea to the challenge by Povilas S of how to easily find and detach the edge of a tape.
The clasp will be an addition to the inside, paper part of the tape. It will have one or two side extensions that will be either open or closed. The position will change manually with a hinge.
Open position: When we need the tape we will open the clasp and unfold normally the tape as the extensions will not be on the way.
Closed position: When we are done we will close the clasp and layer the edge of the tape on top of the clasp. The clasp will be quite higher than the tape (around 0.5cm). As a result, the sides of the tape will stick to the clasp but not the center of it. This will create a gap on the sides of the tape where a part of the tape does not touch anything. Thanks to that it will be easier to hold and unfold the edge of the tape.
The clasp will be attached in such a way in the inside of the tape that we will be able to move it around the tape and every time out it on the right spot.
So the clasp will serve as a marker of the edge of the tape and at the same time it will make it easier to unfold that edge.

I searched for similar existing tools to expose the loose end of the tape. Here is one available solution to the problem. It, too, uses an extra piece of hardware to keep the loose end of the tape exposed. Although the video does not tell how to put the clip-like piece on the loose end, I think it needs to be put manually. The idea discussed in this session is better compared to the one in the link. If no better solutions exist, I suggest Michaela D look for existing patents. If this idea seems better, you could file one.

Shubhankar Kulkarni thanks for looking into this! I did not find any similar patents! Kinda surprising. Do you have any experience with patent filing?

Michaela D I don't. However, there are enterprises that help you with that. I think you shared inventRight a few days back. They do help with patenting.

Great idea! Another addition to the clasp is to give it wheels that touch the inside paper part of the tape. When you start peeling off the top layer, the clasp will run backward, and stop when you stop peeling. This way you do not need "open" and "close" positions but just the "close" position. Once you stop peeling and want to keep the tape aside, you set the end of the tape on the clasp, like you suggested. When you want to use it again, start peeling.

Shubhankar Kulkarni this would make the system even better. So, if I got this right. when you unfold the tape the clasp will be moving and always be on the right spot for when you are done unfolding? So, you won't even have to move it yourself!
