You can't make small investments in real estate directly - the way you can do in equity. However, real estate can be a great way to earn money. Therefore, create a system where people can invest in real estate in small amounts (like an Systematic Investment Plan (SIP)) and sell it when in need of money.
Currently, the only way you can invest in real estate directly is by buying land or building spaces. The area is usually large and costs a lot. Indirectly, you could invest in real-estate companies. I am looking for alternative ways to invest directly in real estate but in small amounts.

Sell land in the tiniest pieces (1 square inch or something of that magnitude) to people who have less money (than needed to invest in real estate today) but still want to invest in real estate.

there are several websites that will do this. Try arrivedhomes.com, the demand far outstrips the supply at present. The other way is of course REITs.

Shireesh Apte I knew about REITs but arrivedhomes.com was new for me. Thank you for sharing that. However, none of these sell only land. They sell land with a structure built on it. This makes it costlier than what I propose.

Buying shares through crowdsourcing the repurposing of the abandoned real estate

A company that crowdsources the finances, buys the abandoned real estate, rebuilts it and splits the earnings among the people who helped to finance it.
How would it work?
As previously mentioned, abandoned real estate can be a huge burden to society. Abandoned offices, warehouses, apartment buildings, etc. could be restored, but legal issues and the prices of the buying and restoration are often autonomous.
A company would look for such real estate, create detailed investment and restauration plans and post them as an idea on the online platform. For each idea, a specific number of shares would be set. People who like the idea could buy shares online and support the project. When all the shares are sold, the company would start the investment and the building. When the building is finished, the real estate would be rented as apartments or offices for at least 10 years. All the renting earnings (except a small company fee) would be divided among the shareholders. Also, all the decisions regarding additional investments, repairs and other problems would be brought by shareholders through online voting. Shareholders could always sell the shares to other shareholders. Only after 10 years, the shareholders could decide to sell the real state to a third party and share the earnings among themselves.

Great! A Kickstarter for real estate. May be the real estate can not be sold ever since individual shareholders can always sell their part and drop out. Newer people will keep coming in and transform the place according to what they believe would give better returns. Maybe the places that are rented could be rented for 10 years. After which the then shareholders can decide whether to continue with the agreement or rent it to someone else.

I think that timeshares are a way of investing smaller funds into real estate.
