A match-making app that helps you find business partners within your local area. To be used strictly for finding local people willing to join forces with you as partners (not employees).
It would feel like a hybrid between Google maps, LinkedIn, and a dating app like Badoo.
Why?
  • Easily find local people who have the skills/expertise you lack and would complement your venture.
  • Find local people who are eager to start a business. "If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together."
How it works
Everyone's profile lists what they bring to the table. For example:
  • How much time per day/week they are willing to invest in the joint endeavor
  • How much money they can invest in the business
  • Past projects
  • Experience, fields of expertise
  • What they are passionate about
  • What kind of people they are looking to partner with
  • Specific ideas, projects they are interested in starting
  • When they want to start the project
  • etc
People can see others who match their search criteria / filters and are located within a specified radius from a specific location.
They can send each other requests to connect. If the other person accepts, they get to send each other direct text messages.
Rules
  • No selling, piramid schemes, multi-level-marketing, or offering work of any kind.
  • No requests or offers for funding, venture capital, angel investments, loans, etc.
Moderators take a look at all reports and remove people who break the rules.

The app can be more efficient and sustainable if it provides both funding and support to ventures that are most likely to succeed.
How?
  • People who use the platform to collaborate can pay a stipend for access. The app can use part of this as its running cost. With the rest, it can provide funding to the most promising ventures that have a verifiable history of work done and a demonstrable feasibility.
  • The app can collaborate with startup incubators and accelerators to provide its users with easy access to the support they need for fast growth.
  • Past users who achieved success with the app's help can mentor new users.
With these in place, users will be motivated to translate their plans into actions.

The idea is good. I think most of the users will be signing in to look for funding though. Very few will look for skills and would want to make them partners in their venture. If they need skills they don't have, they hire such people. Is it not the case in general?

Shubhankar Kulkarni I was thinking more along the lines of someone being a good salesman and knowing what people want, but not being able to produce it. Or someone being able to create cool stuff but not being good with people.
I was also thinking of people that are strongly driven to start a business, have shown resilience, and are not afraid of hard work. They just don't know where to focus their effort to make the best use of it. Such people need a partner with a good vision and strategy

Darko Savic Then, I think you should not allow requests for a partner due to a lack of funds. Because financial support will supersede all other reasons for the partnership. And such platforms that provide financial support already exist.

Shubhankar Kulkarni Agreed. The above-proposed app/platform should be strictly for people that want to build a business alongside other people.
