Build impressive thrones in scenic locations all over a city to give it a tourism-worthy identity. Make it known as the city of thrones.
Why?
Increase the well-being of citizens living there.
Develop a tourism-worthy identity for a city that lacked one.
Free social media marketing for the city when people share photos of themselves "ruling the world".
How it works
A city that lacks a tourism worthy identity sets some funding aside to boost tourism by erecting amazing-looking thrones all over the place.
Stonemasons, woodcarvers, and other sculptors from around the world are invited to present their model creations and apply for the city to fund the construction of their creations. A video of them carving the replica thrones must be uploaded in order to apply.
Great artists are chosen and flown in. Their work is funded by the city.
The general idea is to make people feel like kings/queens and the event worthy of remembering/sharing.
Here are some trones that google turned up:
When planning a new building project in this city, start with a scenic throne then build the rest of the project around it.
Rewarding it since it's a free social media advertising tool

As you mentioned, it would be a great advertising campaign for the place if everybody took pictures on these thrones. Why wouldn't you reward people for that? For example, if somebody takes a photo on every throne and posts it publicly, it would get a free ticket to a museum, or a free traditional dessert in a local restaurant.

I can see people sitting on the thrones and taking pictures of themselves, which they'll share on social media. That'll become the new in-thing, to sit on the most extravagant one and have a photo of it.
Even have some on the beach. They can make cool-looking hammocks and beach chairs.

Goran Radanovic a dramatic-looking throne on top of a hill, overlooking the city would result in countless photos shared on social media. It would be equivalent to taking one's photo next to the Eifel tower.
