Can you come up with a meme that convinces Elon Musk to support mankind's quest for extreme life extension?
He doesn't have to see the meme (yet). The goal is for the meme to be convincing.
Background:
Elon Musk likes memes. If they are good, they eventually reach him.
We had a month-long challenge that was inspired by Elon Musk's unfavorable view of humanity's goal to make people stop aging.
His view seems to be based on the following flawed assumptions:
  • people don't change, they just die, but change is necessary for humanity to advance
  • the same old ideas suffocate society and prevent it from advancing
  • old people rise to power where they are out of touch with younger generations, leading society in directions that might not be in the best interest of people
  • if you're too young or too old you can't be in touch with the majority of the population and therefore shouldn't lead
A list of counterarguments that people came up with as a result of the above-mentioned challenge:
  • Centuries-long lifespans are necessary for interstellar colonization.
  • We are poorly designed entropy-defying systems. The universe is a harsh place for biological life. We need to upgrade. We are almost at the point where our technology allows us to pick up where evolution left off.
  • A healthy brain is adaptive, which is not necessarily true for an unhealthy (aged) brain. Interventions that make extreme longevity possible will surely include maintaining brain function at its peak.
  • A person is a moving average of their current focuses/experiences. That's why we change with time.
  • People get bored doing the same things over and over again. Eventually, we try new things. The more free time we have, the more this is true. New technologies help people work less and have more free time. This potentiates the previous statement.
  • Cognition wise, different generations have different strengths and weaknesses. For example, people born in 1945 have unusually large vocabularies, people born in 1980 have an unusually good working memory, and people born in 1990 have unusually fast processing speed. Society should thus benefit from the coexistence of different generations.
  • The fact that people don’t want to grow old indicates that they haven’t lost the desire to explore. Keep them healthy and they will continue seeking change.
  • Keeping people in optimal health/youth in perpetuity solves the threat of population collapse.
  • For space colonization, we need to optimize for the cost per weight ratio. What is the cost of healing aged adults in space until they eventually have to be replaced by new humans who must learn everything from scratch?
  • Big visions might not be achievable within the current human lifespan. Extreme longevity would help visionaries finish what they started. (Nikola Tesla, Isaac Newton, Leonardo da Vinci, Charles Darwin, etc.)
  • Some think that different generations don’t “vibe” together because of the chronological age gap, but it might instead be because of the health/fitness/youthfulness gap.
  • Different generations might not “vibe” together for the same reason that any other groups don’t - we default to competitive rather than collaborative social dynamics. Letting older generations die is a poor solution to this problem.
  • Future long-lived humans will have all their systems constantly regenerate on a cellular level. The ultimate goal is to maintain peak/optimal function in perpetuity. When healthy, we are adaptive, curious beings. Because we get bored, we explore. Because we explore, we change over time.
If you aren't good at creating memes its ok to just describe the concept. If it's good, someone else can create it.

A meme showing a bunch of babies in a starship saying something along the lines of "At least there isn't a bunch of old dudes around telling us what to do... now how do you drive this thing?"

I don't think I'm quite up to date enough to know which memes are trending at the moment, but these are some of the general ideas I had. I think the meme shouldn't attempt to depict some complicated counterargument at the cost of being "funny";
The first one simply shows that this issue that he rejects could serve as a "obvious" solution to a problem he has publicly spoken about.
The second one is a bit mean spirited, I don't really like it, but unfortunately effective memes are often at the expense of someone. This one suggests that he is knowingly condemning humanity to certain death to get back at his high school bullies.
This one is probably my favourite, it simply suggests that Elon Musk seems to be distracted by his goals of interstellar colonization.

People with significantly different chronological ages are forced to live on different planets

An image shows many planets with cartoon-like humans standing on them. All the people on different planets look the same (age-wise). There's a note near each planet saying 50-year-olds, 200-year-olds, 500-year-olds, etc. There's a large speech bubble on top of the image, converging from different people on different planets into one, it reads "We are all young and healthy, but since Elon thinks the age gap is an obstacle to coexist, we have to live on different planets". The text could be replaced by something wittier, but the essence would be the same.

TRAPPIST-1 system, discovered in 2000, is thought to be the closest star system with an Earth-like exoplanet at 40.7 light-years away from Earth. With antimatter propulsion operating at 0.7 speed of light it will take 41.5 years from the crew’s perpective to reach it (I think quite a bit more taking into account acceleration, deceleration and maneuvering).
