How would you design a fitness app/ watch/ minimal device that you cannot cheat?
Why?
All currently available minimal devices that track your fitness can be cheated. The step counters are the easiest to cheat. Therefore, external motivation is required for you to exercise. If a robust fitness device is available (that cannot be cheated), it could be coupled with your bank account, crypto wallet, etc. and you could be penalized for not exercising. This would be a more successful motivation for exercising.
By minimal device, I mean something lightweight that you can wear. A treadmill can track your activity but it is not a minimal device.

Why not simply make GPS obligatory for activities like walking, running, hiking, swimming, cycling, etc? That way these activities that require you to make some distance could be easily checked if false (0-10 meters considered as false activity).

J. Nikola Is not enougth. I could phisically walk first time and use an app to record each position at each second. Then, next day, just use a false location simulator and change the position each second acording to the recording. I could also increase the speed od the position changing to simulate running, cycling.

Another way of ensuring that there's no cheating is maybe having a microphone in the ankle device that would detect whether there's actual foot-to-surface happening. Yet I don't know whether that can be done in areas with loud outside noise.

I don't necessarily think that doing the hand motion as in the linked video is full on cheating, as you still burn some calories doing it.
But the way that can be mitigated is by having a device that can only work if it is attached to a leg. Like an ankle and having the bracelet circumference prove that it's connected to the leg, not to the wrist. Only when the bracelet is fully locked in, the appliance measures the steps.
I thought of a distance to the ground measurement first, but my brief research showed that it is not plausible.
The issue with the leg above-ankle monitor is that maybe people can attach it to their upper arm and cheat it that way. A solution to that is that the ankle measurements could be done by workers in a sports goods store that would program your belt to the dimension size of your ankle.
