A tool for cutting grass and vacuuming the clippings at the same time.

As shown on the header image, the trimmer part has a skirt all around it. That prevents the grass clippings from flying out on the side. A strong vacuum pulls all the clippings into the collection bag. Imagine an oversized stick blender that also vacuums everything it minces.

The suction tube can be made out of aluminium so that it's lightweight but strong enough to support the trimmer head.

Why?

When you have to trim some sensitive areas where you can't have the grass clippings flying all over the place. For example around swimming pools, indoor artistic patches of grass, etc.

I found this concept that sort of goes for the same idea, but I propose a more useful implementation that does not require crawling to use. This is suitable for serious work.

It is good product innovation. It not only does save the aesthetics of the places from the flying grass clippings but also saves time and extra effort for the workmen, that she/he might put for the clean up afterwards.
As per the header image is shown there is a collection bag attached to the vacuum pump, as from the practical viewpoint it would be very inconvenient to carry a loose hanging bag working with the equipment. From the experience, gardeners use the grass clippers in a swaying manner which keeps the bag swings around.
The Improvement?
  1. A long pipe could be attached to the cleaner that would route the dump into a bin.
  2. A stiff, box-like, attachment should be fixed at the top for collection. Once it is filled gardeners/workmen could empty it into a bin.

Agreed. There could be an optional extension for the collection bag. This is actually a part of an idea I'm posting in the morning:)

That is a nice idea.

However, the clippings usually get degraded in the soil and replenish the minerals and other essential compounds, thereby acting as a source of food for the grass that grows later. Removing the clippings every time you trim the lawn may eventually degrade the quality of the soil. I agree that the soil can be enriched using manure and urea but it is an additional problem that would not arise if the clippings are not removed in the first place.

If the clippings flying into the pool and landing in other things is the only concern, there is another solution for that, already incorporated in the design of the instrument - the skirt. The skirt will act as a barrier and won't let the clippings fly off during the trimming.

Shubhankar Kulkarni In my experience the skirt is completely useless. It shields on the back but is open in the front (where the cutting happens). Debris fly all over the place. You can't use the trimmer without getting the clippings all over your body and everything that surrounds you.

Areas that are tidy can't have the clippings degrade for long enough to serve as fertilizer. It's safe to say that those areas are tended for by artificial fertilizers etc.

Also, people sometimes use a trimmer to cut long grass. When it dries it turns to hay. Unless the hay is raked off, it degrades the lawn below that now can't get enough sunlight. The proposed machine might not work for long grass anyway.
