Distribution
A service that remotely repairs your operating system by first mailing you a KVM switch. You hook it up to your computer and let a remote technician take care of the rest. You then send the KVM back.
Why?
  • Help people that are not computer-savvy take care of their software needs.
  • A way for a technician to offer competitive rates and personalized service from the comfort of his/her home.
  • A way for companies to take care of remote employees' computers.
How it works
A KVM switch is a remotely operated device that hooks to a computer and simulates its input/output devices such as keyboard, mouse, monitor, USB memory, external disk, etc.
People that are not computer-savvy and need an OS reinstall are sent a KVM via mail. They connect it to their computer and give it internet access. A technician does the rest remotely.
People pay for the service based on their needs. The service fee includes a deposit that is refunded when the customer returns the KVM via mail.

Alternative uses: KVM switches for hospice

Concept
Use a KVM switch to help the bedridden or elderly to do things online via a setup controlled by such a switch.
Why
Most hospitals offer hospice services and with the corona virus some people choose to self-quarantine, furthering the need for such a setup. Quality of life is important especially when enduring discomfort. Calling caretakers to set things up for you opens them up for infection in the case where the condition is infectious. If the caretaker has more than one patient, cross infection becomes a posibillity and makes the self quarantine redundant. In the case of the elderly, it would still be more practical for them to get their IT needs resolved without the need for an in-person visit.

If the KVM had a sim card + data plan the recipient wouldn't have to bother configuring the Wifi. This might make things much simpler for people that aren't good with electronics.

Wouldn't it be easier to simply use software, such as TeamViewer, for this?

Darko Savic Then probably the best would be to offer different options to clients depending on what problem they need to solve. Emailing the KVM switch would only be necessary for those cases where remote connection through software wouldn't do.

Povilas S or when explaining to a grandma how to install teamviewer would be harder than mailing the kvm
