A personal assistant AI that learns all about you to eventually become a virtual version of yourself. The autobiographical avatar knows all your stories and is indistinguishable from you on video.
Why?
A personal assistant that can actually call or video chat with people on your behalf, without them realizing it's not really you.
If you're ever gone, your friends and family can talk to the virtual version that is indistinguishable from yourself.
How it works
A personal AI assistant/friend that you talk to via video chat. The assistant is intelligent, knowledgeable, fun, interested in you. It has things to say and questions to ask. It doesn't just wait for input. It teaches you interesting things, brings up fun facts, and drops inspirational nuggets of wisdom in appropriate situations. It's especially interested in stories from your life and remembers them all. It brings them up in future conversations.
These videos explain the technologies that make this idea feasible:
The autobiographical avatar AI has 3 goals:
To assume the role of a personal assistant and do digital tasks for you similarly to Alexa type of AI.
To look and sound like you as closely as possible. It adapts its appearance (voice, facial expressions, etc) to become indistinguishable from you.
To learn as much about you as possible. It's interested in your personal life and your stories. It asks questions about you as if you are talking to a curious friend.
In the beginning the AI looks and sounds generic. As time goes on it begins to look and sound more like you. Eventually you feel as if you are talking to a mirror, but it actually has a mind of its own.
Different versions of ourselves
People talk differently to different people. You AI needs to learn how your appearance adapts to different situations.
You could borrow different "skins" for your AI assistant from others who are also training theirs. For example, your child can lend you the appearance of their AI assistant. So that when you talk to yours it appears like your child. This helps your AI learn what you look and sound like when talking to your child.
personal.ai is doing this and they create unique model for every individual called grounded generative transformer (combination of personal graph + generative neural net) of one person's creations.

What exactly does personal.ai do? I've watched 2 explainer videos but still don't get it. The idea described on this page above seems to be quite different

Build a digital persona out of your existing online presence
Subash ChapagainJun 29, 2022
Basically, the AI system you proposed can also be trained to use the data from your existing digital footprint to generate a virtual personality.
This can be possible if the system can combine your interests, achievements and engagements based on the data from all the digital accounts you have. Combining and merging data from one's social media accounts like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, the system generates a personality that reflects approximately what you are like virtually.
Moreover, your intellectual input in the form of contents you have generated online can be used. The contents to be utilized could range from blog posts, videos, audio contents, technical and scientific articles. Over time, the persona will be reflective of what type of individual you are, what your preferences are, your political as well as socio-economic ideologies.
