A common online environment where different video games intersect. People playing completely different video games can interact with each other there.
Why?
  • User, your favorite game character to interact with online friends that like different games.
  • Bring different kids together online.
How it works
Guest characters
The simplest implementation of this is to use an existing game environment such as Roblox, Minecraft, Decentraland, etc. and then just build from scratch the characters from other popular games for the purpose of making them available in the environment.
This wouldn't let people actually play those games, but it would provide the look/feel of a familiar game within the host environment.
Actual game intersection
For different games to be able to mingle they would have to be made following a set of universal standards that all the supporting video game makers adhere to.
When characters from different games enter the common area, they would lose some of the abilities/features that are incompatible with other games. This would protect the characters from some games from being overpowered by super-abilities of others.

An online environment where you construct your game

Just like you have environments for Python or Andriod, where you can host different programs and apps, respectively, create an environment where you make every possible command required to create a game available. Game developers could create their games, if they need something extra, they could create plugins. This will make it easier for interactions between different game characters.

I think that, when you enter a common area, if you really implement the feature that characters lose some of the abilities/features that are incompatible with other games, your first idea (guest characters) is the same as the second (actual game intersection), isn't it?
Also, I am interested in the level of intersection (the same as Shubhankar Kulkarni and Danny Weir). I would suggest building a set of characters in all games and making it possible for users to load any game with the "same" character, but modified game-allowed "powers" to match the original character. For that, you need a platform for games that can easily and fast switch the environments. Therefore, in games from the same publisher, it could be easier to implement this.

Is this simply to interact and meet new people/ characters or do you intend to create a game with environments and stories and tasks from multiple games? If it is simple for interaction, is it like an online version of Comicon?

Shubhankar Kulkarni for the sake of simplicity/feasibility it would be an online version of Comicon. I imagine that compatibility between different games from different creators would be extremely difficult to achieve. It would be amazing though if it was possible.

Darko Savic Agreed! But until we achieve that, who wouldn't like to enter an online Comicon anytime they wish? :)

How do you envisage the characters interacting? Would it just be for friendly companion type activities (like Mario Party) or to fight (like Super Smash Bros.). Smash Bros. has obviously broached this crossover of characters a little bit by incorporating several Nintendo characters from different game worlds in the same game. I believe that there may be some copyright issues in creating the characters directly and you may have to get game developers to agree to the use of the characters in a legitimate game format.
Having kids interact and compete with their avatar characters is definitely a good idea though, something similar is already possible in games like Fortnite and Minecraft.
