Robots, designed to scan for, identify, catch and release any unwanted animals that entered the house and are hard to get rid of without killing or harming them. Examples: snakes, spiders, various rodents, bees, etc. The idea was inspired by the following three: 1, 2, 3.
Get rid of unwanted animals in your home without killing or harming them and without having to catch and release them yourself or call professionals to take care of this. Having a potentially dangerous or unwanted animal inside your home could be very frustrating and distract you from your main tasks until you take care of the situation. Such robots would save you worry, time, and efforts.
Some animals are deadly poisonous, having a robot constantly scanning for them in your home would reduce the chance of death or serious injury.
Promotes ethical treatment of animals.
Unlike ethical traps, a robot could be designed to catch different types of animals and would be more efficient in the task, since it could chase the targets around instead of just using a passive approach.
A cool concept - robots catching and releasing animals to free them up, - technology helps nature instead of destroying it. What would be considered a very humane, ethical act is now done by robots, so this human quality is passed on to them.
This could start from making robots specialized to catch specific animals (e.g. snakes or spiders) in places where they are often found inside homes and it's a known local problem, for example, in tropical countries like Australia. Later, when the basic technology would be set in place, a single robot could be adapted to catch different types of animals.
Different robots would be required according to the size of the animals and their movement: snakes, scorpions, rodents could be caught by small to medium size driving robots; spiders, bees and various other insects would best be chased by a small drone or a hybrid between a drone and a wall-driving robot.
I see two ways how to initiate the find-catch-release process. The simpler one is whenever a person sees an unwanted animal inside he/she turns on the robot and tells it what animal it should search for and its' approximate location, then the robot registers this specific target and goes looking for it. Alternatively (or additionally), while being in silent, waiting mode, the robot could routinely scan the premises for any unwanted "intruders" itself, it could drive from room to room and search for lurking spiders, snakes, etc.
To find and identify the animals the robot could use heat sensors (infrared cameras), movement sensors, and simple cameras with good AI-powered image recognition software. For larger animals (snakes, rodents, etc.) it could shoot chips from further away to mark and track the animal in case it escapes sooner than the robot could approach it (inspired by this idea).
For catching the animal, the robots could use various methods, like shooting the net on the animal or sucking it in like with a vacuum cleaner. Once the animal is caught, it would be kept in a specialized capsule, allowing it to breathe. It could then be safely taken outside and released either by the robot or by humans (the capsule could be placed outside and opened without having any direct contact with the animal).
