the idea is to create an app that, by inserting the food products you have at home, can automatically create recipes and suggestions for using those products that would most likely end up in the garbage:

  • Leftover cheeses
  • maturing yogurt
  • hard bread
  • not too fresh fruit and vegetables
  • etc...
This would help both the environment and the family budget in a decisive way, if applied on a large scale

Sharing ingredients among neighbors

Some people might be shy or otherwise not interested in sharing with the neighbors. But there could be a setting in the app where you could opt to have your ingredients shared with everyone in your vicinity (or just people you know). The app could then come up with more elaborate recipes because there would be more ingredients available.

Optionally, the app would try to match the swapping of ingredients that are approximately equal in value (give or take 20%).

or if you need one, but you don't have it, you can see who, among your neighbors, can give it to you, so you can finish your recipe.

Yes, that would be cool. I can think of 2 potential obstacles that make it hard to sustain:
- the need to keep an updated inventory might be burdensome
- if the system starts with low liquidity (people not exchanging everything) they might lose faith and stop participating/updating

Instead of only using ideas suggested by the app, other app users could suggest things you could do with the available food at home.

This app would be of great help during severe lockdowns, food scarcity due to disrupted transport, extreme winters, etc.
