Brainstorming on the Asbestos Hazard in Hatay, Turkey
Hatay, a historic province in Turkey, is facing a serious environmental and public health threat in the aftermath of the massive destruction it has suffered: asbestos exposure. The asbestos fibers released into the air from the debris of collapsed buildings pose a severe risk to respiratory health. Long-term exposure to asbestos can lead to lung diseases, mesothelioma, and cancer. Therefore, raising awareness and developing solutions for this issue is of utmost importance.
Through this brainstorming session, we aim to understand the dangers of asbestos, raise awareness, and develop solutions. Our discussion will focus on the following key questions:
Why is asbestos exposure such a significant issue?
Which groups are most at risk?
Are the existing measures sufficient?
What steps can be taken to educate the public?
What are the short-term and long-term solutions to reduce asbestos exposure?
While generating ideas, we will consider environmental, health, legal, educational, and policy perspectives to develop comprehensive solutions. Our goal is not only to recognize the problem but also to propose effective actions and create strategies that will raise public awareness on this issue.
Let’s think, discuss, and develop concrete solutions together!
