Replicating the feeling of not being allowed to laugh but needing to, like at school, via a comedian to user audio connection.
The feeling of laughing when you really shouldn't be is way more intense than regular laughing for some reason. Like during class, at some workplaces, in the military...
Replicating it as an adult would be a nostalgic throwback to school days when it happened the most.
Another avenue for emerging comics to practice their craft live, not just at comedy shows at night for five to 10 minutes as they usually have.
The user would have to have earphones in for the app to start.
It's similar to Darko's comedy video chat idea but the element of social pressure not to laugh is a leading feature and how I arrived at the idea in the first place. It's not just "try not to laugh to win a game" but "try not to laugh as it's socially not acceptable at the moment and people will look at you funny."
Hence, mandatory earphones and not needing to watch the phone are there as it will make it more awkward/funny as it's not as clear as to what is causing the laughter. Unlike with video viewing.
The app could have multiple tiers.
The first one would link the user with a random comedian available and have him riff while the person is out, be it commuting in the subway, waiting in line at Starbucks, or as a break at a public library... A great way to break the mundane everyday activities.
Another tier would have the user schedule an activity he would be doing, like going to the doctor. Maybe even given the details of the reason behind the visit and have the comic prepare a five minute bit especially for the situation, like colonoscopy, and then unleash it while you're in the waiting room. It would also be therapeutic to break the stress out.
Or you could simply pay more and get to pick the topics that interest you for the comic to riff on.
As it would be hard for the phone to register whether the person is shaking from containing the vocal part of the laugh, a flat fee would be better for the payment. The microphone detects the actual vocal laugh and sends automatic extra payments to the comic.
The app could use location data to prevent the user from using it at his home.
