A family bedtime routine where everyone gathers and people take turns to reflect on their favorite moments of the day.
A bonding moment/routine for the entire family.
A way to gauge the quality of each day. In time this builds a desire to make your days richer and do more of what you and your family like.
Identify your own (and family members') patterns and preferences.
Identify potential problems (depression, negative outlook, etc).
A replacement or addition to the bedtime story.
Group memory exercise.
End the day focusing on positive events.
When it's time for the youngest family members to go to sleep, the entire family gathers in their bedroom.
Everyone makes themselves comfortable and someone acting as the facilitator says "Ok, who will go first?" "What were the best moments of the day for you?"
One by one, each family member takes the spotlight to remember and share their favorite moments of the day. Everyone listens to the person that currently has the spotlight. If the young ones drift off and start chatting with each other, someone reminds them that it's time to listen to whoever currently has the spotlight.
It's ok to help people remember some events, to get the ball rolling: "did you like when you did X?" but they should think for themselves and exercise their memory. Only help them if they stall for too long.
When a family member has exhausted the list of events they found valuable that day, the next takes the spotlight.
If someone drifts into negative events, remind them that we solve problems during the day, but this time is reserved for favorite moments.
