Traps built into stylish park benches to catch and relocate stray dogs. An operator can remotely open the door to release animals that shouldn't have been captured.
Why?
  • Packs of stray dogs roaming the cities are dangerous to people. Kids especially. Youtube is full of graphic videos (warning).
  • Dual-purpose park benches.
  • This idea was inspired by this one from Miloš Stanković.
How it works
Park benches with a stylishly built-in cage that traps stray dogs/cats and notify a central service. Depending on what animals are caught, they can be released remotely or picked up and relocated to a temporary shelter.
There are 2 ways of going about it:
  1. The under-the-bench cage is locked in place. It can be unlocked and replaced with an empty one while the animal is taken away in the other.
  2. A potentially dangerous animal is pulled out with an animal control pole and put into a transport cage.
Remote monitoring and release mechanism
Every cage has a built-in camera and a remotely operated trap door. It also has an identification number and a phone number where people can reach an operator to get an animal released. The operator opens the door remotely. When the animal is out, the operator re-arms the trap door.
Automated SMS if your animal is caught
Every cage has a strong signal RFID scanner. When an animal is caught, the scanner attempts to scan for any chips embedded under its skin.
Accountability of animal owners
If the owner doesn't react to the SMS within some time, the operator attempts to call them. If they can't be reached, the animal is delivered to their home address an the owner is billed for the service. If there is no way to leave the animal at the owner's address, it is taken to a local shelter and the owner billed for every day the animal stays there.
Remote refilling of lures
The bench trap includes a remotely operated mechanism that dispenses food/lure within it.
Birds, hedgehogs, rats, mice, racoons, squirrels, etc
It woldn't take long for other animals to get used to a new food source. They need to learn that the trap is scary and needs to be avoided at all times. The solution probably involves a way to single out animals that don't belong in the cage and scare them away with something powered by a small electric motor.
How would you solve this?

The traps could be made of welded metal rods. If the gaps between the metal rods are large enough, other smaller animals could escape.
