Whenever a user attempts to download media from the internet they are often issued the standard copy-right warning. Most platforms will deny the downloading or copying of copyrighted content. Many frustrated users have such urgency or desire to use copy-righted material they simply remove copy-rights or use cloning technology to remove copy-rights, and unfortunately bring legal trouble on themselves. The software idea I am proposing will turn the simple warning to not use copyrighted content into an offer to buy copyrighted content I intend to hire a software developer to create software that auto publishes a platform shown with EVERY copyright notice issued. The platform would present offers to sell the copyrighted media in question or to sell the desired portion of the media. The platform would feature movie selling sites like Netflix, Cinemax, and Youtube where the movie, songs, or articles are listed for sale at that site's regular price. The platform would also feature a movie splitter. Users can cut a preselected number of minutes or seconds of the movie according to the rules of the Fair Use Law. Minuets cut from the movies will be sold at price preselected by the copy right owner during the copyright registration process. This software turns a copyright warning into a sellers platform.

I think this is a great idea to improve the copyright policy. That being said, I would imagine there are certain areas of songs or movies that would requested more often by people. Eg, famous movie scenes or the beginning of Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up. (The popularity of the meme could mean more people request it)
Thus, the prices of different portions may vary according to the demand on the market and in the long run, it might not necessarily be a benefit and could potentially cause more cons than pros.

  • Darryl Koh Yuan Jie Varying prices are the driving force behind capitalism. Charging higher prices for more popular media comes under the theory of "supply and demand" also a basic staple og capitalism. My idea is really about how owners of copy-righted content can earn money off of software whose predominant function at this time is to issue a warning. It's about the artist and other copy-right owners earning revenue from copyrighted material based on the Fair Use Law. ................................Capitalism.

For movies, it could be a bit difficult because movies are really expensive to produce, and thus, the rights cost a lot. I think a single person is rarely financially capable of buying it. On the other hand, buying the rights for music is simpler and less expensive, but depends on what are you going to use the music for. But I see you got that one covered, so this platform (as I realized) could work, as long as the conditions are clearly highlighted. Did you think about how would you get rights to sell these licenses/rights?

J. Nikola I have personally rented movies from Redbox for $1.00. However, I admit that buying rights is a different subject. But on other hand, Netflix, HBO, and many other platforms like Youtube have resolved every issue you raised so I don't have to.

I like this option. Many times if you want to use only a section from a song or a movie, you can't without paying for the entire thing. This option will let me choose what part/s of the movie I want and use them appropriately but legally. This would also be useful for film and music schools where teachers can gain access to parts of originals, which they want to talk about in class.
