Most people dream about being involved in the making of their favorite movies. Since that isn't possible, what is the next best alternative? How about giving them a say on certain aspects of the movie by allowing them vote on what they think is best?
Why?
  • Give fans a stake in the movie production process
  • Give movie producers and studios an alternative funding method
  • Potentially guarantee a movie's success
How it works
This concept works via web and mobile applications. The idea is for the creation of a dedicated online service where movie fans can vote on certain aspects that the producers provide. Ideally, this should be managed so that it doesn't hamper the director's creativity.
By the way, this ability should not be open to everybody. To vote, fans have to do one of two things:
  • Pay a subscription fee for the service.
  • Pay an advance fee for a movie ticket (not the full fee).
Examples
  • Producers can ask people who they think is the best actor for a role from a shortlist of people they have interviewed. To aid people's decision, they should provide a couple of casting videos and a detailed description of what the perfect actor should look like.
  • With this service, fans can vote on which direction they want a story to go. If you are a Bridgerton fan, then you know the third season will focus on Colin and Penelope's love story. When this was announced, many fans raised objections. This concept will give fans the power to choose which characters the next season should focus on. They can do the same for the Fast and Furious franchise and Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible series.
  • Fans can vote on movie locations, etc.
When people have a say in how things go, it is natural to expect them to want to see how their ideas pan out. This guarantees that such a movie/show will perform well. Besides, the volume of interest people show in a scheduled movie can give an idea on how it will perform, thereby enabling studios and producers to gauge audience interest.

This seems like a good idea. It would have definitely improved the reception of the last season of Game of Thrones. For series and movies from the mystery or suspense genre, it may not be a good idea. If people already knew what is going to happen, they may not want to watch it later.

Shubhankar Kulkarni You certainly follow my train of thought. I actually had Game of Thrones in mind when I thought this up. At the very least, they should have remade it.
