The problem
Many bars and restaurants need terraces. These terraces are often a seasonal thing and a big investment for the business owner. Also, many terraces need to be custom-built, because of the specific location, angle, or requirements. The same works for private backyard terraces and patios.

The idea
What if we created customizable one-size panels/blocks that can be easily fit together and create a beautiful and durable pop-up terrace or a patio?

Users would choose the panel characteristics (size, layers, features, colors, materials, add-ons), the number of desired panels, and the delivery option online. They would have their panels delivered in few weeks, along with the manual guide on how to assemble the terrace/patio of choice.

The panel characteristics
The panels would be made out of durable aluminium structure similar to the ones which is used for concert stage construction. On the basic structure of the panel, customers would be able to add/choose:
  • the size - three sizes available : 25x25 cm, 50x50 cm, 20x50 cm (edge panel)
  • the top material - different types of wood, metal or plastic covering that gives the panel unique looks and properties (slip-resistant, waterproof, ice-resistant, direct sun-proof, ...)
  • the color - colors available for the desired material
  • the hight-adjustment add-on - any panel would be of an adjustable height; if extreme height variation is needed (because of a big angle of the street), than additional structures could be ordered
  • the fence add-on (if the terrace requires fence or a separating wall, it could be introduced by 20x50 cm panels) - they would offer a series of glass, wooden, plastic or metal fences/separators wit or without lights, plant containers or doors
The whole process would be very straightforward and user-friendly. The customer would enter the web interface where it could write the size requirements, adjust the angles and create/save/edit his project any time (similar to Ikea).

The benefits
By having an option to draw, customize and build their own terraces and patios, small business owners would feel more comfortable to open pop-up terraces during summer times, while families wouldn't think of a patios and terraces as an incredibly expensive ideas (especially if you live in a rented house). The whole process would be much easier, faster and eco.friendly, since panels could be moved, reshaped, reused, recycled or sold to another customer without big adjustments or complicated actions.

A company, Gablok, came up with just that and took it to the next level. They make entire houses out of lego-like blocks. The houses are sturdy. The blocks provide insulation and the materials used in construction are 100% biodegradable.

Hi Juran,
This might be helpful https://www.google.com/search?q=balcony+floor+tiles+amazon&rlz=1C1CHBF_enIN921IN922&sxsrf=AOaemvJkY6BFo-PMprLJAnz6WheA8Vy_yQ%3A1633698103866&ei=N0FgYav5M6DD3LUP1IeJ4Aw&oq=balcony+floor+tiles+amazon&gs_lcp=Cgdnd3Mtd2l6EAEYADIECCMQJzIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIECAAQQzIECAAQQzIECAAQQzIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgYIABAWEB46BwgjELADECc6BwgAEEcQsAM6BwgAELADEENKBAhBGABQoYUCWKGFAmD0jwJoAXACeACAAWaIAWaSAQMwLjGYAQCgAQHIAQrAAQE&sclient=gws-wiz

Hi Aashi Agarwal! Thank you for the link. It leads me to the google search for keywords "balcony floor tiles amazon". If I understood correctly, you wanted to highlight the existing floor panels for balconies, right?

I think these panels are cool but lack the key properties for terraces and patios, and these are height adjustment, angle adjustment (by changing the height of each "leg"), durability, heavy load resistance (many people sitting on a terrace), and the option to be fully customized.

On the other hand, I agree that this kind of balcony tiles could be used as an inspiration and a model for my blocks/panels. The reason why I don't like them is that I've seen them on festivals and concerts (used to cover the grass and soil) and I've seen how dent, reattached, or damaged they get because they do not have a firm calibrated base (in my case, an aluminum structure).

Juran Yes Juran. I have not used them personally but having the option of adjusting height and angle would be nice!
