Bounties attract serious brainpower to the challenge.

The idea is to create a consumer-ready home haircut robot. Possibly as a startup business, crowd-funded via Kickstarter.

It would probably make sense if the product was a helmet that can do a few simple haircut styles. For example the classic army haircut. 

The helmet would scan your head and calibrate itself based on your unique shape. 

Attempts at robotic haircuts have been made before but so far there is no consumer-grade product on the market. If people can make self-driving cars, lawnmowers, vacuum cleaners, how are we not ready for robotic hair styling?

Fitting the helmet with a laser hair removal system could also save a lot of time and effort for people who shave their hair off completely. 

Shaving takes a lot of time and only gets rid of the hair on the surface, allowing it to grow back much quicker.
Electrolysis is a good option, but it needs to be administered by a dermatologist or certified electrologist, this could become quite an expensive and time-consuming solution.
Prescription creams have been known to cause acne and rashes.
Tweezing or waxing would be extremely painful on the head.

So, the best way to get a completely smooth head would be to use laser hair removal. As this has always been fashionable among balding men and even preferred by some who can grow a complete head of hair, the market for a product like this does exist.

Robotic nano hairdressers

This might be a bit far-fetched idea, but I just can't help but post it here, since the topic is directly related. The idea is inspired by this. Once robotic nanotechnology became advanced enough this perhaps might be one of the first ways we can test implementing nanorobots into (in this case more microrobots and only on the surface of) our bodies.

Such microrobots could "live" on our scalp and cut our hair with very high precision. This would perhaps also allow having haircuts that would otherwise be impossible or very difficult to make with ordinary haircut equipment. A haircut could also be permanently maintained if desired by the person - the exact length of the hair which naturally regrows each day would be cut by the robots routinely. The robots could also perform other functions such as watching for and killing hair parasites, helping to get rid of dandruff, etc. Maybe the heat produced by the body could be used to power the robots. To gain the benefits people would have to get used to benevolent robotic "lice" living in their hair.

The nanobots could give a haircut and create a 3D model using your hair. :) Creating images of celebrities or presenting messages using your hair can be done on the scalp. For that, you need shorter hair as the scalp is the canvas and your hair is used as the material you draw with. Something like this - https://twitter.com/celebritybarbe/status/1341262985579401216

But, if you use nanobots, they could create 3D images on your head. It will be like having a sculpture on your head. :)

A Robotic Hair Maker

In this case, the hair maker will have to be bigger than a helmet so it cannot be worn. I propose a design that is about the size of a standing hairdryer. The Hair maker will have robotic arms that are designed to cut, plait and style your hair. The hair maker should have chambers to be filled with hair products that can be injected during hair styling. The proposed hair maker will be suitable for both men and women and perform more elaborate haircuts than a haircut helmet can execute.

Different Hairstyle

This is a very great idea, I must say! 

I have been postponing going to be barbershop for the past few weeks. If this were a product in the market, I would be more than happy to have it! 

However, I'm black. There are various hair types on the planet with some harder than the rest just like mine. Asians for example have softer hair. 

Therefore, I think there must be different blade/razor types as options for customers. Or as a "variant" package where all the razor types are available. 

What do you think about this?
