Everyone has their favorite weather. Some people like sunny days, some like rainy days, and some even like snowy days. Imagine that what you see from the window is a quiet forest. The sky is full of goose feathers and heavy snow. A thick layer of white snow accumulates on the ground. The sound of the wind enters the house through the window. At the same time, the fireplace on the wall There was the sound of burning wood, exuding warmth. The cold outside the window forms a strong contrast with the warmth inside. You can make a cup of coffee by the window and watch the philosophical story. If you are tired, you can lie down on the warm bed and take a nap.
It is difficult for us to experience that kind of life in the city. Therefore, I hope to design a special glass curtain wall to replace traditional windows, which can simulate all kinds of weather you want on the windows, and at the same time, connect smart speakers to recognize the needs of users. The user only needs to call, just like calling Siri, the weather scene he wants to see is conveyed to the weather simulation system through the sound. The user can feel the simulated weather through this special window and the speakers arranged around the room. I think that such a scene simulation system can also help people with insomnia and feel happy.

Augmented Reality System that Encompasses your Whole House to give the Kind of Weather or Scenes that you want to create

A high-definition Augmented Reality system that incorporates your surroundings into its display can be used to create visuals that correspond to the weather you want to see. Temperature regulation and ventilation systems can be modified to create the sensations that are perceived by your skin.
The AR system records your surroundings and relays them to you after editing them to give you a feed of your environment that is modified to look just like your favorite weather or chosen video effect.
Such AR settings can be modified to accommodate more people for multiplayer modes. Such an AR implementation will encourage a lot of physical movement. It can also be used as a platform for training military personnel.

Windows that can recreate your favourite places on earth

A derivation of this idea could be to simulate your favourite locations. This might be especially popular while travel restrictions due to Covid remain in place.

I know there are a number of YouTube channels that broadcast live feeds from specific places on earth, accompanied by music, like this one in Paris. They seem to be relatively popular so I could imagine it being a nice option to have when deciding what you want to see through your "windows" as well.

This could still be integrated with the weather of the chosen location to make the experience more authentic.

Technologically sound but philosophically perilous

Creating such windows which could maintain the indoor environment according to an individual's wish is not less than a marvel of human imagination. By this, we could be able to uphold our comfort zone to a new height. Technologically this is indeed a great idea. However, with this, our contact with nature will reduce to almost negligible. Due to extensive urbanization and self-centric culture, people are compelled to live solitary lives, which will worsen after such technologies.
Moreover, our body is adapted to natural environments; therefore, it would be difficult to predict the ill effects of synthetic conditions. To take an example of such analogies, Air conditioners (ACs) are frequently used in homes, offices and vehicles. There are certain reports which clearly suggests that too much use of ACs is severely dangerous for our health and well being. Therefore, we would have to consider every scenario before adopting such technologies.

I also agree with you that this technology is a double-edged sword, with pros and cons. It depends on how we use this technology. I think that the use of this technology in submarines, ships, bunkers and other places mentioned by Darko will bring a better experience to the crew.

Simulating sunny weather to wake you up in the morning

It's way easier to wake up in the morning if the sun is shining outside. The system could open the blinds and simulate sunshine even when the weather is actually bad. This could be used instead of or in addition to the alarm clock.
It's easier to fool you when you're sleepy and even though this may backfire when you'd check and see that the sky is actually grey and it's raining, it might be worth it since you'd already be woken up and ready to do things and you might not want to come back to bed again.
If the simulation was good enough you wouldn't know whether the weather is truly sunny or not until you checked it. You could place the bed on the other side of the room, further from the windows to make it harder to check, you'd have to get up and climb out of it first.

The problem of turning a window into a screen

You propose using a "glass curtain wall" - what exactly do you mean by that? Is it that the transparent glass could from time to time be covered with a specific sheet to turn it into a multimedia projecting screen or that the widows would simply be replaced by a screen and there would be no windows as such anymore? A more solid, LCD screen could also be dragged along over the windows back and forth - that's the third option. The removable screen approaches require a system to physically drag the screen over the windows and hide it whenever it's not needed. The screen-only approach is not good, because you wouldn't be able to let any natural light in anymore, all you'd have is the screen.

Unfortunately, such a thing as a window that can transform into a screen doesn't exist (as far as I know at least). But on the other hand, it makes a place for a novel invention. The windows of some long-distance commercial planes have a function to dim the light installed into the windows themselves, you don't have to use curtains, simply press a button and the window adjusts the natural light levels reaching you automatically, according to your needs. That is already pretty cool. What if specific "augmented windows" could be made that would incorporate elements of certain weather conditions into a natural view seen through the window. The augmented mode would let you change the scenery accordingly and be turned off whenever you want, to leave you with only a natural view.

Sorry if that was exactly what you had in mind, I got confused by all the contributions and comments, so ended up not sure what approach we are talking about here:) To simulate entirely different scenery would require a full-screen approach. The same is true if you are in a bunker or a submarine.

Povilas S Yes, it is still just a concept at the moment. The several methods you mentioned, such as using a movable screen, drag it out as a window when simulating the scene, and hide the screen when you are not using it. This seems to be able to achieve a similar effect and has a certain feasibility. But what I am most looking forward to is that it can be used as a see-through window as well as a screen. This may only be achieved when technology develops to a certain level.😀

Adding sound through recordings and smell through things like air fresheners or incense sticks (or any other way that could be more automated) would complete the experience.

Darko Savic I think your idea is great. In fact, with the development of technology, especially VR interactive video, smart home manufacturing, smart wearable medical equipment, IoT technology, 5G, AR, materials, etc. Some ideas that cannot be realized for the time being are about to become reality.
