Quality assessment of agricultural products in Iran is predominantly performed manually and visually by experts, which is costly, time-consuming, and prone to human error. Meanwhile, numerous open-source AI models (e.g., the YOLO family, MobileNet, ViT) are readily available as "imported code" trained on foreign datasets. Scientific evidence shows that using these models directly, without adaptation, leads to poor performance in agricultural environments with different climate, lighting, and local varieties. For instance, Meta's Detectron2 model missed more than half of the trees in a region in India because it was trained on North American forests. Therefore, the central question is: Can a reliable quality-testing system for Iranian agricultural products be built by using imported code as a foundation and applying a local adaptation layer (fine-tuning + calibration)?
