Young aspiring filmmakers often face many challenges especially if they are not in film school or do not have access to various equipment needed or locations. Some of the issues faced but not limited to include:
  1. Difficulty in sourcing for shoot locations
  2. Unable to find casting talents and actors
  3. Lack of funding
  4. Lack of mentors
  5. Unable to find other filmmakers to collaborate with
  6. Unable to publicize and market their films
Solution
I propose a platform that functions as both a streaming site(vimeo, letterboxd etc) and also as a online educational marketplace(fiverr x coursera) where filmmakers are given a step-by-step process guidiance in creating their first short films. Filmmakers are able to create their own films and publish it on the site to gain a greater following and a improve their portfolio while allowing feedback from the public and audiences to be received.
Filmmaking often falls into 3 procedures: pre-production, production and post-production. This platform will guide aspiring filmmakers in creating films by following these procedures, think of it like a course of sorts. For example, you will only be able to start shooting after the script has been completed or you are only able to pair up with a mentor after you have found actors.
In order to aid them, location sites and actors will be available on the platform as well and users simply have to check for their availability to book them. Equipment will be available via a sharing system of sorts where users are able to borrow the equipment for a short duration during the production period. Likewise, once production has finished and they require post-editing software, they will be able to borrow it too.
However, nothing is truly free and everything does come with a cost. Therefore, a membership fee has to be implemented and it probably will not be cheap. However, from my understanding, it is a lot cheaper renting equipment than buying, thus it should still be a more viable alternative for younger filmmakers. In addition, I believe that booking actors and locations from a single platform or agency would save cost and time too.
Once the film is completed, they are able to publish it on the platform for other filmmakers, mentors and even the general public's viewing pleasure. This is a great way to receive feedback and gain exposure in the industry. Users are able to "like" in order to boost views and ratings and leave comments too. The more popular a film becomes, the greater the likelihood of mentors and other industry figures to notice and support the creator in future films(SInce often, success in the film/media industry is mostly through word of mouth).
Filmmakers are also able to collaborate with other filmmakers and able to choose on which aspect of the film they would like to be in charge of in order to improve their skills(eg scriptwriting).

J. Nikola By any chance did you tag the wrong person? The main point of the platform is to:
  1. Allow filmmaker to create films as easily as possible without the conventional hassle of searching for talents, location scouting etc.
  2. Guide young aspiring filmmakers who have no experience through coursera-styled videos.
  3. Provide a platform for them to publicize and showcase their work
While all this are definitely possible in the current times, based on my personal experience, it is still too much of a hassle and I believe the process can be streamlined. Conventionally, one would have to source for talents, locations on different platforms, learn filmmaking on another platforms like youtube and probably market their films on youtube or vimeo. I propose a platform that condenses all of these features into one so as to make everything easier for young filmmakers. Cost wise, it won't be cheap but it will definitely be cheaper as compared to outsourcing everything via other platforms and means. This platform will function as an agency of sorts that allows users to have access to talents, locations, mentors etc.

Darryl Koh Yuan Jie hahaha yes, my apologies (I changed it).
Okay, I understand the first, but the other two pints already exist in pretty developed form (Coursera, Youtube, ...). But, that's something we both agree on. I really support this idea, because I like to watch amateur movies. They always show brutally honest presentation of the world we live in or the mind of the creator.
I am just worried that this platform would make the filmmaking process a skill that you can learn in a few courses and thus result in reduced quality of the movies. The costs are high, but it's with every other skill you want to learn - you need to buy the equipment and it is often expensive. In other words, if I give you the resources, the actors, the locations, the course, and the platform to stream, yes, you could brush your style and become a pro, but it's all served for you then. Would Cristiano be the greatest if he had everything served from the beginning? Maybe a cheap and bad example, but I hope you understand.
I am concerned that what you propose is not what young talents need in order to be successful. I would rather vote for developing an advanced online moviemaking course or filmmaking student exchanges, to give everybody a chance to meet, experience, and present their vision of the world.
On the other hand, if you just want to make a platform that enables everyone to film movies for less money and make it a sustainable hobby, then this could work.

J. Nikola No worries, I see, yes I completely understand your sentiments too and I do agree with them! Your point on Ronaldo is spot on. I think I should add also that at the end of the day, while I propose such a platform, the talents, locations and courses all still require a fee on top of the membership fee(realisitically speaking). Thus, new filmmakers who do not have the budget willl definitely face difficulty in aquiring such provisions.
I do not aim to simply spoon-feed everyone. Majority of the costs will still have to be borne by filmmakers at the end of the day. The platform is simply a place for them to organize and plan their films in a much more cohesive and "easier" way.
Truth be told, first films are always bad. Heck, mine was pretty terrible. However, I think back then I would have appreciated it if I had feedback from people and mentors that would at least allow me to learn from my mistakes. I took this as my inspiration for this idea and hopefully it is able to direct budding filmmakers on a pathway to success, yet they definitely have to take the first steps first!

I'll try to think of something that could make it really interesting. Something that could start a trend of craft-movie culture (similar to the craft beer culture that is roaming the cities nowadays) - higher quality of the message, lower quality of the technology behind it; local movie houses. That would be an interesting trend to follow :)
