A platform where you can "adopt" a project and sponsor it alone or with a group of your friends.
There are a ton of charity organizations around; however, most of them focus their efforts on one type of societal problem. Furthermore, most charities cast a wide net and hope to do their part in resolving a particular societal problem. For example, there are charities focused on solving world hunger, there are some focused on helping people access healthcare services, and so on.
Why We Need Another Charity Model
Charities are laudable organizations that help make the world a better place. However, I think there should be another model different from the current one to augment what has and is being achieved.
Most charities tackle big, humongous problems. And this might seem daunting to the average person. Besides, several of the causes charities tackle do not have a end in sight. As a result, many people might be hesitant about donating to them.
I propose a charity platform that curates laudable projects that people can:
These projects will have clear goals (and end dates, in some cases).
For example, a bright and talented kid without the financial means to get a good education. In such a scenario, an entry will be created on the platform, following verification, with a goal - say $50,000. Then, a good Samaritan can either choose to "Adopt" the project and provide all the funds or several people can donate towards the fulfilment of that goal.
Other examples include fundraising for a terminally ill public personality, building a community center in rough neighbourhoods to provide a good foundation for the kids, sponsoring the supply of electricity to a town in a third-world country, and providing finances for a research project shunned by Big Pharma because it could result in a drug that'll hurt their bottomline.
For "Adopters" of entire projects, there should be an option for them to be anonymous or for their name to be attached to the project.
The platform should have categories so people can easily find projects with goals they are passionate about. And while the algorithm should give every entry a chance, there should be a section for the most popular and "trendy" projects.
The platform should offer charity-as-a-service, where people who have a particular charitable project in mind can get in touch, outline what they hope to achieve, and provide the funding (or at least, most of the funding) required to accomplish said project.
This option will help people who do not have a lot of time on their hands to make an impact in their society all the same.
I believe such a platform will support what mainstream charities do and make the world more pleasant for its inhabitants.
Do you think it's feasible? Would you use the platform?
