A platform like Uber but for local help around the house. Instead of being centrally controlled by a company, it would be organized as a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO).

When governed by a DAO there are no middlemen between employees and employers. No commission is paid to a 3rd party.

In a way, this could be seen as a paid version of this idea.

Why?
  • The easiest way to find odd jobs and make money instantly.
  • The easiest way to find help around the house.
  • No rent-seeking middlemen between employees and employers.
  • State-organized job finding solutions are less efficient because they are primarily designed to control and extract taxes from citizens and only secondarily to help people find work. As such they make things more difficult than they need to be for both the would-be employers and employees.

How it works

Everyone leaves each other reviews on how the encounter went. People decide whether to work/hire based on these reviews. New people with no reviews yet just have to wait for someone brave enough to give them a chance. They can temporarily lower their fees to attract employers and get some reviews.

People could pay each other via cryptocurrency that is locked in escrow until the job is done. By default, each transaction involves a volunteer arbitrator that is asked to decide in case of a dispute. Each transaction requires 2 out of 3 signatures to complete (employer, employee, arbitrator). People can also opt to pay each other in cash or however they want - if they trust each other.

The data in user profiles is fully optional. Some people might want to put up their photos, ID's, names, phone numbers, etc. Others might prefer online anonymity which is fine. When the employer and employee meet, they can verify each other's IDs, common social media friends or whatever makes them both comfortable. This is for the purpose of accountability if something goes wrong.

I imagine such a service would be illegal in some countries because the system envisions no 3rd party control - which is a problem for the taxing authority. How could this be solved to make the platform compatible with all jurisdictions?

Would the platform not act as a third party? Even if it does not take a percentage of the payment, by keeping the money in escrow it would leave a paper trail which should be enough for the taxing authorities?

Spook Louw not really. Every transaction and relationship would be between the employer and employee, governed by software
